Give the Gift of Life: Cy-Fair Fire Department and Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center Host Community Blood Drive on August 27

August 14 2025

Residents of Barker are invited to make a life-saving impact on Wednesday, August 27, during a community Blood Drive hosted by the Cy-Fair Fire Department in collaboration with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. The event will take place from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Cy-Fair Fire Department Administration Building, located at 10710 Telge Road, Houston, TX 77095.

Every successful donor will receive a commemorative 50th Anniversary T-shirt and a voucher for a free pint of Blue Bell Ice Cream, but the greatest reward is knowing that your blood may be the one that saves a life—in an emergency room, a trauma case, or even onboard a Cy-Fair EMS ambulance.

Why Blood Donation Matters — Locally and Immediately

The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center plays a vital role in the health and safety of communities across the 26-county Texas Gulf Coast region, serving more than 170 hospitals and health care facilities 24/7. Among their many critical partners is the Cy-Fair Fire Department, which now keeps blood units stocked on emergency response vehicles to treat trauma victims before they reach the hospital.

That means your donation could directly assist someone in your own neighborhood—within hours of your visit.

After you donate, your blood goes through an intricate process. First, it is separated into red cells, platelets, and plasma, then tested for safety and typed. From there, orders are fulfilled for local hospitals and ambulances, with a fleet of couriers delivering urgently needed blood products around the clock—even on holidays and during natural disasters. Type O blood, the universal type, is especially critical and routinely stocked aboard ambulances and Life Flight helicoptersfor patients in dire need.

Donors may even receive text updates about how their donation is used—a small, private glimpse into the powerful impact they've made.

A Community Effort That Saves Lives

Thanks to generous residents and local partners like the Cy-Fair Fire Department, the Blood Center works to maintain at least a 3-day blood supply to prepare for emergencies ranging from major surgeries to hurricanes or winter freezes.

And now more than ever, every pint counts. According to the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, the need for blood is constant—but only about 3% of eligible Americans donate each year, even though one donation can help save up to three lives.

The Cy-Fair Fire Department is encouraging residents to turn out in force and help change that statistic.

Convenient Ways to Commit for Life

Can’t make the drive on August 27? You can still help:
