Get Outside at Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth Park

September 19 2023

Tucked away behind Barker Cypress Road off of West Road, Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth Park is the perfect place to spend some time in nature. Sprawling across 188 acres, the park is home to 3.3 miles of trail that wrap around a lake and connect two sections of the park: a playground area on the south side of the lake and a dog park on the north side. Maintained by Harris County Precinct 3, both sections have full service restrooms for public use and ample parking.

The playground section offers several large playscapes including a rock climbing wall, swings, slides, balance beams and more. With several covered pavilions and picnic tables around the playground, there are lots of places to park your gear, have a picnic lunch or read a book in the shade.

With several workout stations and benches located along the trail, Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth Park offers plenty of opportunities for exercise in the great outdoors. Take your dog for a walk around the trail and spend some time in the dog park section. Divided into two sections that help separate smaller breeds from larger breeds, there are several shade canopies and water access for your furry friends to enjoy. Before heading home, stop by the dog washing station to give your pup a bath.

There are two points of access to the park. The playground section on the south side of the lake is accessible from Wheat Cross Drive off of West Road, while the dog park on the north side of the lake is accessible from Barker Cypress Road, just north of West Road. Fishing is permitted in the lake as well, so feel free to bring your rod and reel for some recreational fishing close to home.
