From the Farmers Market to Main Street: Flour House Bakers Opens in Tomball
A Saturday farmers-market stop has become a place to pick up breakfast or lunch during the week. Flour House Bakers has opened a storefront at 214 W. Main St. in Old Town Tomball, giving the family business a permanent home after years of selling bread and baked goods at the Tomball Farmers Market.
Owners Matt and Sarah Cross built the bakery around sourdough, English muffins, scones and other baked goods. The business dates to 2016, and its September 19 storefront debut brings that nearly decade-long market history onto Main Street.
The bread is also the beginning of the meal
The shop's breakfast-and-lunch menu makes use of the bakery's breads in ways that go beyond taking a loaf home. The O.G. pairs egg, bacon and cheddar on an English muffin, while Sage Against the Machine uses a sage-and-rosemary English muffin for a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich.
Jalapeno Business puts an egg, bacon and avocado on a jalapeño-cheddar scone. A BLT uses a sourdough English muffin, and the chicken sandwich comes on a freshly baked pain au lait bun with vegetables and jalapeño ranch.
For a sweeter breakfast, cranberry-cinnamon French toast starts with an English muffin and adds apple compote and vanilla Chantilly. The posted menu also includes a chicken Caesar salad with brioche croutons.
A familiar business with more ways to visit
The storefront adds coffee and sandwiches to a business known for breads and pastries, including sourdough, jalapeño-cheddar brioche, cinnamon rolls and scones. Its changing selections give longtime market customers a reason to see what is available beyond their usual order.
The practical change is the permanent location: customers can build a meal around the bakery's products instead of treating the stop only as a weekly bread pickup. For Old Town Tomball, it is another local business growing from a market presence into a Main Street address.
