From Dreams to Careers: LSC-CyFair Scholarship Winners Share How Their College Journey Transformed Their Futures
For many students, the path to a career can feel uncertain, but for Iryna Tanasii and Zemoh Boris Nkeumboh, their time at Lone Star College-CyFair (LSC-CyFair) has given them the clarity and confidence they need to pursue their dreams in finance and cybersecurity.
Tanasii, who hails from Ukraine, and Nkeumboh, from Cameroon, were both recently awarded scholarships through LSC-CyFair’s Annual Chancellor’s Student Essay Contest. Their essays not only won them scholarships but also provided a glimpse into their personal journeys—a journey of growth, discovery, and resilience.
A Strong Foundation for Success
For Tanasii, LSC-CyFair has been more than just a place to learn; it has been a transformative experience. “My LSC-CyFair experience has set a strong foundation for my academic and professional success,” she shared. Through the guidance of professors and advisors, Tanasii was able to solidify her passion for finance, a field she describes as “essential to every industry and offering diverse opportunities.”
What stands out to her about LSC-CyFair is the supportive community. She emphasizes how faculty helped build her confidence, giving her the tools she needed to not only succeed academically but also professionally. Her involvement in various campus activities provided networking opportunities that expanded her career vision.

Tanasii credits the college for being the catalyst to her future career: “LSC-CyFair has been more than just a school—it’s been the gateway to a different chapter of my life. My college experience has shaped my life through academic growth, personal development, and professional exploration.”
A Vision for Cybersecurity
Nkeumboh, the first in his family to attend college, has experienced a similar transformation. Originally from Cameroon, he is set to graduate in May with an associate degree in Cybersecurity. His next step is to continue his education in LSC’s Cybersecurity Bachelor of Applied Science Degree program.
Reflecting on his time at LSC-CyFair, Nkeumboh writes that his college experience has been a period of “personal growth, academic achievements, and the development of a clear vision for my career.” He speaks about how the supportive faculty and hands-on experiences have shaped him into the cybersecurity professional he aspires to be. “I’m passionate about protecting organizations and data,” he shared. “Cybersecurity is a career I’m excited to pursue because of its importance in today’s digital world.”
Beyond the classroom, Nkeumboh has been actively involved in the student Cybersecurity Club, where he worked on projects that fostered teamwork and practical skills. These experiences, coupled with internships, gave him a sense of confidence as he applied his classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios. “The foundation I have built at LSC will serve me well,” he said.

Tanasii and Nkeumboh were two of 16 students recognized for their academic achievements at the Chancellor’s Donor Appreciation Luncheon, where they each received a $1,000 scholarship funded by generous donors.
