For Montgomery County families, the cost of veterinary care can sometimes turn a routine decision into one that has to wait. On Monday, Sept. 21, local animal welfare groups are teaming up to remove one of those barriers by offering free spay and neuter services for owned cats and dogs belonging to Montgomery County residents.

The public event will be held at Montgomery County Animal Services, located at 8535 SH 242 in Conroe, through a partnership between the shelter and the Spay Neuter Alliance of Montgomery County, Texas. Space is limited, and pet owners must register in advance. Organizers are encouraging residents to sign up as soon as possible because an appointment is not considered confirmed until the applicant receives a confirmation email.

Why free spay and neuter services matter in Montgomery County

For individual pet owners, spaying or neutering can help prevent unplanned litters and provides a practical way to take care of pets already living in local homes. On a broader level, accessible sterilization programs are also part of the long-term effort to reduce the number of unwanted dogs and cats entering animal shelters and rescue organizations.

That makes the Sept. 21 event more than a one-day veterinary clinic. It represents the kind of preventive work that can help families keep pets in their homes while easing pressure on the network of shelters, fosters and rescue groups working throughout Montgomery County.

The event is another collaboration between Montgomery County Animal Services and the Spay Neuter Alliance of Montgomery County, whose focus is summed up in its message of “working together to save lives by preventing pet overpopulation.”

Local rescue groups join forces to help pets and families

Several animal welfare organizations are supporting the free clinic, reflecting how much of Montgomery County’s rescue work depends on groups working together rather than operating alone.

Participating partners include Active Paws Rescue, Operation Pets Alive!, Texas Animal Society, Bruce Kapp Memorial Animal Fund, Houston Chow Chow Connection, Fix & Save Lives and Lone Star Animal Welfare League.

Together, those organizations represent different parts of the local animal welfare system, from rescue and adoption to financial support and community outreach. Their involvement helps make services such as the Sept. 21 clinic available to residents at no charge.

How Montgomery County residents can register

The free Montgomery County spay and neuter event is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, at Montgomery County Animal Services in Conroe. The program is open to Montgomery County residents with owned cats or dogs.

Residents can register through the event’s online form at form.jotform.com/261186396717165. After submitting the form, applicants should watch their email for confirmation. Registration alone does not guarantee an appointment; the appointment is official only after a confirmation email has been received.

With limited appointments available, organizers are encouraging interested pet owners to register early. For families who have been putting off the procedure because of cost, the event offers an opportunity to handle an important part of responsible pet care while also supporting the larger effort to reduce pet overpopulation across Montgomery County.
