Fort Bend Sheriff’s Office Opens Applications for Spring 2026 Citizens Police Academy

December 02 2025

Fort Bend County residents eager to learn more about local law enforcement have a unique opportunity this spring. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office (FBCSO) is now accepting applications and nominations for its Spring 2026 Citizens Police Academy, an 11-week program designed to provide participants with a behind-the-scenes look at how the Sheriff’s Office operates.

Beginning January 15, 2026, the academy will be hosted every Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Gus George Regional Law Enforcement Academy, located at 1521 Eugene Heimann Cir, Richmond, TX 77469. The course runs through April 2, 2026, and participation is completely free of charge.

Only 35 participants will be selected, and applications will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on January 1, 2026.

“This program is ideal for anyone curious about law enforcement or interested in how the Sheriff’s Office keeps Fort Bend County safe,” said Sheriff Eric Fagan. “Through the Citizens Police Academy, participants gain meaningful insight into law enforcement operations and become even more informed partners in public safety.”

The Citizens Police Academy curriculum is designed to give participants an in-depth understanding of every major division within the Sheriff’s Office. Presentations will be led by division commanders and include topics such as:

  • Patrol Operations
  • Criminal and Narcotics Investigations
  • Human Trafficking and Victim Services
  • Inmate Management
  • Emergency Communications
  • Training for Jailers, Deputies, and 911 Telecommunicators

Attendees will also tour key Sheriff’s Office facilities, including the new regional training complex, the Fort Bend County Justice Center, and the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. This hands-on approach gives participants a more personal connection to public safety efforts and encourages informed civic engagement.

Applicants must be 18 or older and must have no criminal arrest record to be eligible. Those interested in applying or nominating someone for the program can do so online at the official Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Police Academy webpage.

As Fort Bend County continues to grow and evolve, the Citizens Police Academy offers residents a valuable opportunity to strengthen community ties and understand the daily work that goes into protecting neighborhoods. From patrol units to emergency management, this initiative provides a comprehensive and personal look at the challenges and responsibilities of modern policing.

With growing interest in public safety and transparency, programs like this continue to build bridges between officers and the communities they serve—something Sheriff Fagan believes is essential for long-term safety and trust.
