Fort Bend County’s 'People’s Clerk' Hosts August 23 Passport Fair to Bring Global Access Closer to Home
In a county where nearly every neighborhood tells an international story, Beverley McGrew Walker, Fort Bend County’s District Clerk—widely known as the “People’s Clerk”—is making it easier for residents to take their next step abroad.
On Saturday, August 23, 2025, her office will host a Passport Fair at ISGH Masjid AT-Taqwa in Sugar Land, located at 10415 Synott Rd., Sugar Land, TX 77498. The event will run from 8 AM to 12 Noon, offering the chance for residents to complete passport applications without navigating weekday schedules or traveling far from home.
Appointments are limited and can be booked at fbctx.gov/passports, where full details on costs and required documents are also available. All applicants—minors included—must appear in person. Children under 16 must be accompanied by both parents, or by one parent with a DS-3053 form or a notarized authorization letter and a copy of the absent parent’s identification (front and back).

Why Now Matters in Fort Bend County
This event arrives at a moment when Fort Bend County’s identity is increasingly global. According to U.S. Census data, the county’s population is approaching 1 million, making it one of the fastest-growing in Texas. More than 22 percent of residents are Asian, 24 percent are Hispanic or Latino, and 20 percent are Black—with no single racial or ethnic group holding a majority. This diversity is not just cultural—it’s deeply personal, shaping family ties that stretch across continents.
Nationwide, demand for passports has surged in recent years. The U.S. State Department reported processing over 24 million passport books and cards in fiscal year 2023, the highest in history. For a county as internationally connected as Fort Bend, bringing passport services directly into the community reflects a practical response to this growing need.
Bringing Services Where People Are
By hosting the Passport Fair at ISGH Masjid AT-Taqwa, Walker is continuing her effort to meet residents where they live, worship, and gather. The choice of location speaks to the county’s inclusive spirit—making government services not just accessible, but approachable.
Walker’s reputation as the “People’s Clerk” comes from initiatives like these: removing barriers, listening to community feedback, and ensuring that essential services work for everyday schedules. A Saturday morning event can mean the difference for a family juggling work, school, and travel deadlines.

More Than Paperwork
While the passport itself is a government document, it is also, for many, a bridge to family reunions, study abroad programs, work opportunities, and long-awaited vacations. In Fort Bend County—where the median household income exceeds $113,000 and nearly half of adults hold a bachelor’s degree or higher—international travel is not just a luxury but an integral part of personal and professional life.
This fair offers a convenient step toward those journeys, in an environment designed to serve residents with both efficiency and respect.
