Fort Bend County Officials Honor First Responders and Military Heroes at 9/11 Observance
On the morning of September 11, 2025, community members gathered outside the Historic Fort Bend County Courthouse in Richmond to mark a solemn anniversary that continues to resonate across generations.
Hosted by Fort Bend County Judge KP George and the Fort Bend County Veterans Service Office, the annual Heroes of Honor Observance paid tribute to the bravery of first responders and military personnel while honoring the lives lost in the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

Now 24 years later, the memory of that fateful day — when nearly 3,000 innocent lives were taken in coordinated terrorist attacks — continues to unite communities across the nation. In Fort Bend County, the remembrance ceremony has become a local tradition, offering residents a place to reflect, mourn, and give thanks.
“Today we honor a day of unimaginable loss, tremendous courage, and unwavering resilience,” said Chief Justin Jurek, Fort Bend County Fire Marshal, who served as guest speaker. “They rushed towards danger while others sought safety.”

Many in the crowd wiped away tears, united in shared remembrance and appreciation.
Judge KP George reminded attendees that the observance is more than just a reflection of the past — it’s a vow for the future. “This isn’t just a ceremony — it’s a promise never to forget,” he said.

For many who lived through the events of 9/11, the images of heroism and heartbreak remain vivid: firefighters ascending burning stairwells, police officers clearing streets, strangers helping strangers in the shadow of the unthinkable.
