Fort Bend County Libraries Launches Library Card Design Contest Ahead of September Celebration

July 01 2025

In an effort to spark creativity and community pride, Fort Bend County Libraries has announced a Library-Card Design Contest in conjunction with its Summer Reading Challenge and National Library Card Sign-Up Month.

The contest invites residents of all ages to submit original artwork for a chance to have their design featured on a limited-edition library card. The winning cards will debut in September during Library Card Sign-Up Month and will be available at all Fort Bend County library locations while supplies last.

Designs must reflect this year’s theme: “Our Stories, Our Community.” Entrants are encouraged to celebrate the joy of reading, the value of libraries, and Fort Bend County’s vibrant diversity. Submissions should be hand-drawn or painted—AI- and computer-generated images are not permitted.

Winners will be selected in three age categories:

  • Children (ages 0-12)

  • Teens (ages 13-17)

  • Adults (ages 18 and older)

The contest is open to all Fort Bend County residents, as well as those who live, work, or go to school within the library system’s service area. Entries are limited to one per person and must be submitted in person using the official template, which is available for pickup at all library branches or can be downloaded at www.fortbendlibraries.gov.

All entries must be received by the end of the business day on Friday, July 26. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Designs will be judged based on:

  • Creativity

  • Relevance to the theme

  • Visual impact

  • Readability

  • Effective use of space

Winners and honorable mentions will be honored during a celebration at George Memorial Library in Richmond in September. The three winning designs will be printed as official, limited-edition Fort Bend County library cards, launching on September 2.

There is no fee to enter the contest, and library officials are hopeful it will encourage community engagement and highlight local talent.
