FORE! Houston Charity Golf Tournament Returns to Champions Golf Club October 19 to Support Children Battling Cancer and Serious Illness
For families navigating a childhood cancer diagnosis or another life-threatening illness, everyday moments can take on new meaning. A week at summer camp, an afternoon spent painting or the chance to make friends who understand their experiences can offer children something beyond medical treatment.
On Monday, October 19, 2026, golfers, local businesses and community supporters will have an opportunity to help make those experiences possible when The Periwinkle Foundation hosts its eighth annual FORE! Houston charity golf tournament at Champions Golf Club, located at 13722 Champions Drive in Houston.
With a 10 a.m. shotgun start, the tournament brings a charitable cause to one of Northwest Houston's most established golf destinations. Beyond a day of friendly competition, the fundraiser supports programs that help children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, along with their siblings and families, find opportunities for connection, creativity and normal childhood experiences during difficult circumstances.
How The Periwinkle Foundation Supports Houston Children and Families
For a child undergoing cancer treatment, life can quickly become centered around hospital visits, medical procedures and changes to familiar routines. School, friendships and extracurricular activities may all be affected. Parents face their own challenges, while siblings adjust to changes in family schedules and responsibilities.
The Periwinkle Foundation, a Houston-based nonprofit established in 1983, helps address these challenges through camps, arts programming and survivor experiences for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
The organization began when Dr. Paul Gerson established Camp Periwinkle to give children receiving treatment at Texas Children's Hospital an opportunity to enjoy a traditional summer camp experience. More than four decades later, the foundation has expanded into a year-round organization serving children, teenagers and families.
According to the foundation, its programs reach more than 14,000 children, teenagers and family members annually, while more than 5,000 campers have participated in Camp Periwinkle since its founding.
The foundation's mission extends beyond patients themselves, recognizing that a serious childhood illness affects parents, caregivers and siblings who share the experience.
Camp Periwinkle and Arts Programs Create Experiences Beyond the Hospital
Among the foundation's signature programs is Camp Periwinkle, an overnight summer camp serving patients ages 7 to 15 treated at Texas Children's Cancer Center, along with a sibling.
Campers participate in activities such as horseback riding, archery, swimming, cooking and arts and crafts, with medical professionals from Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center helping support the camp environment.
For children accustomed to treatment schedules and medical appointments, camp provides an opportunity to develop friendships, build confidence and enjoy activities alongside peers who understand their circumstances. Including siblings also gives brothers and sisters opportunities to connect with other families facing similar challenges.
Periwinkle's programs extend beyond summer camp to include day camps, teenage retreats and weekend experiences for families.
The foundation also brings creative opportunities into hospital settings through its Arts In Medicine program at Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Center. Established in 1997, the initiative works with more than 20 local artists and arts organizations to provide creative experiences for children receiving inpatient and outpatient care.
Another initiative, Making A Mark, features more than 300 pieces of artwork and creative writing annually by children affected by cancer and blood disorders. The exhibition gives young artists opportunities to share their perspectives with audiences beyond the hospital.
Together, these programs offer children and families experiences that support emotional well-being, personal expression and connections during treatment and recovery.

Why This Champions Community Fundraiser Matters
For families dealing with childhood cancer, support often comes from many directions. Physicians and medical teams provide treatment, while relatives, friends and community organizations help families manage the emotional and practical challenges of serious illness.
Periwinkle addresses another part of that experience by creating opportunities for children to enjoy friendships, creative activities and familiar childhood experiences.
Events such as FORE! Houston connect those programs with residents and businesses who want to contribute.
A single day of golf in Champions can help sustain programming that reaches families throughout the Houston area, including those receiving care at Texas Children's Hospital.
