Entries Now Open for Fort Bend Libraries’ 2025 'We Are Fort Bend' Photography Contest

June 20 2025

Fort Bend County Libraries (FBCL) is calling on amateur photographers across the region to share their unique perspective of local life through the lens in this year’s “We Are Fort Bend” Photography Contest. The 2025 theme, “Vibrant Colors of Fort Bend,” encourages participants to highlight the county’s culture, nature, people, and places in rich, expressive imagery that captures the spirit of the community.

Submissions will be accepted between June 30 and July 21, and each contestant may submit one original, unpublished photo — no larger than 8”x10” — in printed form at any FBCL location. All entries must reflect the personal work of the photographer, and only amateur photographers are eligible to enter. Those who earn a living selling their photography are excluded from this friendly community competition.

Prizes and Public Recognition

Photographs will be reviewed by a panel of judges, who will award prizes to the top three winners. Additionally, the community will get a chance to vote for two “People’s Choice” winners via Fort Bend County Libraries’ official Facebook page and website between July 24 and August 6. All photographs will remain anonymous throughout the judging period to ensure fairness.

The winners will be formally announced at a public reception on August 9 at George Memorial Library in Richmond, where the photos will also debut in the Bohachevsky Gallery. The exhibit will remain on display through September 26, and a virtual gallery will be hosted on the FBCL website for broader community access.

Rules and Entry Guidelines

Digital enhancements are allowed, but must be limited to basic editing techniques such as cropping, resizing, red-eye reduction, and reasonable color and contrast adjustments. Each entrant must also secure permission from any recognizable individuals featured in their photo. FBCL reserves the right to display submitted entries indefinitely in both physical and digital formats, so all content must be appropriate for general audiences.

The contest — sponsored by the Friends of the George Memorial Library — is free to enter, offering a valuable opportunity for local photographers to share their vision and gain exposure without a financial barrier.
