Empowerment and Leadership Summit Offers Guidance for Middle and High School Boys
Spring ISD’s Family and Community Engagement Department hosted its annual Boys’ Empowerment and Leadership Youth Summit on Saturday, Feb. 3.
Over the course of the morning, middle and high school students from throughout Spring ISD attended breakout sessions that focused on three tracks: college and career readiness, social-emotional learning, and leadership. Leaders from both the district and the surrounding Spring ISD community were also present to lead sessions, as well as mentor and inspire students.
“It takes all of us together to ensure that each student is successful,” Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa said. “We thank our partners who — year after year — come out to support our young men in Spring ISD. I know they will all be so impressed with the future leaders who are here today.”
The event was held at Dekaney High School, and was open to male students from throughout the district. The Summit is held annually and is aimed to address social, emotional and academic needs, and features conversations about self-esteem, friendship, and relationships, as well as college and career advice, and etiquette.
Students like Moises Discua, a freshman at Spring High School, attended the Summit to learn more about other students in Spring ISD and the opportunities available to him.
“I went from middle school to high school recently, and realized that everyone perceives Spring High School in their own way. But it all depends on how you interpret it,” Discua said. “And that’s why we are here, to help change the perception of us as students, to show that we are leaders in our community.”
The Girls’ Empowerment and Leadership Summit is set for March 23, also at Dekaney High School. To register for that event, click here.
