Residents near Potranco Ranch West could soon have another place to meet for coffee, cool off with ice cream or try a dessert flavor they may not find at a typical neighborhood scoop shop.

Dumont Creamery & Cafe is planning a new location at The Portico at Shaenfield, 7807 W. Loop 1604 N., Suite 2116, San Antonio, TX 78254, according to a recently filed Texas construction project. The cafe will add an internationally rooted dessert concept to the growing collection of restaurants, fitness studios and other businesses taking shape near Loop 1604 and Shaenfield Road.

For families and residents in the surrounding Far West Side and Alamo Ranch area, the project is notable not just because another dessert shop is coming. Dumont's menu combines familiar favorites with flavors influenced by desserts and ingredients from around the world, giving the neighborhood something a little different for an after-school treat, weekend outing or evening coffee stop.

What Is Planned for the New San Antonio Dumont Creamery & Cafe?

Construction information for the Dumont Creamery & Cafe project calls for a 1,400-square-foot cafe at The Portico at Shaenfield. The estimated construction cost is $150,000, with work scheduled to begin Oct. 30, 2026, and reach completion Feb. 26, 2027.

Those dates represent the anticipated construction schedule and should not be confused with a confirmed restaurant opening date. An official grand opening date for the San Antonio Dumont Creamery & Cafe has not yet been announced.

The address puts Dumont along one of the Far West Side's increasingly active commercial corridors. The Portico at Shaenfield already includes businesses such as Box St. All Day, Crepeccino and Black Swan Yoga, among other tenants.

For Potranco Ranch West residents who regularly travel Loop 1604 for dining, shopping and errands, Dumont will add another locally accessible option without requiring a trip toward central San Antonio.

From Hyderabad to Texas

Dumont Creamery's story began thousands of miles from San Antonio.

Brothers Vivek and Bhaskar Inampudi founded Dumont in Hyderabad, India, in 1999, and the company grew to more than 50 locations in India before expanding into the United States. Its first U.S. location opened in the Frisco area in late 2023, marking the beginning of a broader American expansion.

That background helps explain why Dumont's menu looks different from a conventional American ice cream parlor.

The company has built its identity around globally influenced ice cream flavors. Its selections have included Kheer, inspired by Indian rice pudding; South Indian Filter Coffee; Lotus Biscoff; La Ferrero, a hazelnut and chocolate combination inspired by Ferrero Rocher; mango; butterscotch; salted caramel; raspberry mascarpone and more familiar choices such as chocolate, vanilla bean and birthday cake.

That blend of recognizable and less familiar flavors is a significant part of what separates the brand from a traditional ice cream chain.

More Than an Ice Cream Shop

Despite the word "Creamery" in the name, Dumont operates as a cafe as well as a dessert destination.

Current Dumont menus include hot and iced espresso drinks such as Americanos, cappuccinos, lattes, mochas and flat whites. Depending on the location, customers can also find specialty drinks including pistachio white mochas, lavender lattes and date-cardamom lattes.

The dessert-meets-coffee side of the menu includes affogato, which pairs a scoop of ice cream with espresso.

Dumont also serves falooda, a South Asian dessert beverage that can combine ice cream with ingredients such as noodles, basil seeds and nuts. Current menus feature versions including mango, kheer and butterscotch falooda. Milk teas, fruit teas, smoothies, slushes, milkshakes and bakery items round out the broader cafe menu at existing locations.

The exact menu for the planned San Antonio location has not yet been released, so individual flavors, beverages and prices may differ when the new cafe opens.

Dumont Continues Its U.S. Expansion

Dumont's planned San Antonio location comes as the Hyderabad-founded company continues growing beyond its original market.

After entering the United States through North Texas, Dumont expanded into other Texas communities. Existing or recently operating locations have included Frisco, Plano, Coppell, Lakeway and Sugar Land, with the brand also establishing locations outside Texas.

The company has continued moving into new U.S. markets as well. In Virginia, for example, Dumont opened its first location in the state in August 2026, with reporting describing the concept as an India-founded creamery serving internationally inspired flavors.

The planned Loop 1604 cafe appears to represent Dumont's entry into the San Antonio market. A search of currently available Dumont listings did not identify an operating San Antonio Dumont Creamery & Cafe as of September 2026.

Another Addition to the Loop 1604 and Shaenfield Area

For residents near Potranco Ranch West, the bigger story is how quickly the dining and retail landscape around Loop 1604 and Shaenfield continues to fill in.

The Portico at Shaenfield was developed with retail and office space along the Loop 1604 corridor, and state construction records show continued tenant build-outs at the property.

Dumont's relatively compact 1,400-square-foot footprint also lends itself to the kind of casual neighborhood visit that does not necessarily require a full restaurant outing. It could become a stop for families after dinner, friends meeting for coffee, students looking for a sweet treat or residents curious to try flavors such as kheer or South Indian filter coffee ice cream.

With construction currently projected to wrap up in February 2027, more details about hiring, operating hours, the San Antonio menu and an official opening date are likely to emerge as the project moves forward.
