Dining for a Purpose: Savor These Katy Area Restaurants During Houston Restaurant Week

August 01 2024

It's officially that time of the year when Houston celebrates the grandeur of its culinary excellence - Houston Restaurant WeeksTM (HRW), the largest annual fundraiser for America’s largest food bank, the Houston Food Bank, begins today and will run till September 2nd. Over 400 restaurants have come together to make this event a success, offering diners specially priced, multi-course prix-fixe menus for brunch, lunch, and dinner for the next 33 days.

HRW meal prices range from $25 to $55, with between $3 and $7 donated to Houston Food Bank per HRW meal sold. Every $3 helps Houston Food Bank generate 9 meals for hungry Houstonians.

This year's event holds particular significance as it provides a vital revenue boost for many restaurants still recovering from recent storm disruptions. Enthusiasm for the event seems to be at an all-time high, with participants eager to support their local eateries and help them bounce back.

Notably, the list of participating restaurants includes Katy area favorites such as Astor Farm to Table, Phat Eatery, Federal American Grill Katy, Copenhagen Kitchen and Bakery, Black Walnut Cinco Ranch, Pearl and Vine, Pane e Vino, and many others.

Houston Restaurant Weeks was established in 2003 by the 26-year restaurant correspondent and philanthropist, Cleverley Stone, who also hosted “The Cleverley Show,” and contributed food segments to the Fox 26/KRIV Morning News. In its lifetime, the HRW has donated over $21 million, providing over 63 million meals for those who are food insecure. In honor of Stone, the Cleverley Stone Foundation now carries on her mission of supporting Houstonians in need through Houston Restaurant Weeks and a sister event, Eat Drink HTX.

The beneficiary of HRW, the Houston Food Bank, has been serving Houston and southeast Texas since 1982. It provides access to more than 150 million nutritious meals in 18 counties through over 1,600 community partners including food pantries, soup kitchens, social service providers and schools. The food bank also advocates for policy change and racial equity, offers nutrition education, health management services, and assistance in securing state-funded aid.

As Houstonians gear up to "Dine Out & Do Good" for Houston Restaurant Weeks, they also get the opportunity to contribute to a mission feeding millions and creating a significant impact on their community's health and well-being.
