Cypress Ranch High School Teacher Named Finalist for Most Remarkable Woman Award

April 09 2024

Cypress Ranch High School teacher Karissa Hubbard was named a finalist for the Most Remarkable Woman in Houston award, presented by CW39 and Nexstar.

The award aims to recognize women who are empowering, motivating, encouraging and making a difference in their communities while inspiring and changing lives. An educator for more than seven years, Hubbard was nominated for the award by a former colleague and friend.

“My friend, Shawnette Shields, submitted an application for me,” Hubbard said. “I found out right before the winter holiday break that I was a finalist.”

In addition to being a teacher, Hubbard is also an award-winning author, international Christian counselor and inspirational speaker. Hubbard has been asked to speak at events around the city and was awarded the Top Expressionist of the Year by Broadcast Houston. She was selected for Arkansas Tech University’s inaugural 19 Most Exceptional Alumni class and was named a K.I.S.H. Magazine Top 30 Influential Women: Movers and Shakers in 2022, among other awards and nominations.

Hubbard also started the Popular Girl book series and the congruent Popular Girl Conference. The conference invites women of all ages to learn about finding purpose, staying persistent in a purpose and engaging in philanthropic activities, like making toiletry bags for the homeless.

Hubbard’s finalist designation is an honor she doesn’t take lightly.

“Being selected as a finalist in a city as big as Houston is truly a blessing,” Hubbard said. “I don’t base my desire to want to help and serve people on being acknowledged, but sometimes it is nice to be recognized for your hard work. It has also motivated me to continue to give back to my community and be remarkable in all things I do going forward.”
