Cypress Falls HS Football Coach Wins UIL Sponsor Excellence Award
Chris Brister, head football coach and campus athletic coordinator at Cypress Falls High School, was one of 15 statewide winners of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 2023 Sponsor Excellence Award, announced by the UIL on Jan. 26.
School and district staff, friends, family and UIL Director of Athletics Ray Zepeda joined Brister for a surprise announcement at the campus on Jan. 26. Cypress Falls Principal Becky Denton nominated Brister for the award.
“I was very surprised,” Brister said. “This award is a product of working with other outstanding people besides myself. I represent Cy Falls High School, Becky Denton and Cy-Fair ISD, and try to do it the best way I can. It’s very humbling and I’m honored to receive it.”
Brister has served 28 years in education, including 18 years at Cypress Falls. He has spent the last seven years in his current role. During his tenure, his teams have qualified for the state playoffs five times and reached the area round three times. As the school’s recruiting coordinator, Brister facilitated 146 players in securing college scholarships, achieving a 93% passing rate for all student athletes. In the past year, he served as the president of the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association and presented at various coaching clinics. Brister is a graduate of Cy-Fair High School.
