Cypress Falls High School Brings Louis Sachar’s ‘Holes’ to the Stage for Three September Performances
For Cypress families looking for an affordable local night at the theater, a familiar story is headed from the bookshelf to the stage this September.
The Cypress Falls High School Golden Eagle Theatre Company will present Holes, adapted for the stage by author Louis Sachar from his acclaimed novel, during three performances at the Cypress Falls High School Auditorium, located at 9811 Huffmeister Road in Houston.
Shows are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24; 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25; and 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. Tickets range from $5 to $15.
For the students involved, the production offers a chance to take a story many audience members may already know from school, the bestselling book or the 2003 film and rebuild its strange, dusty world right here in northwest Houston.
Stanley Yelnats, Camp Green Lake and a Mystery Beneath the Dirt
At the center of Holes is 14-year-old Stanley Yelnats, whose run of bad luck lands him at Camp Green Lake after he is convicted of a crime he did not commit.
Despite its name, Camp Green Lake has neither greenery nor a lake. Instead, the boys sent there spend their days digging enormous holes beneath the punishing desert sun, supposedly as an exercise in building character.
Stanley soon begins to suspect there is another reason for all that digging.
As the story unfolds, family history, friendship, injustice and a long-running mystery begin to connect Stanley with fellow camper Zero and a memorable cast of characters that includes the Warden, Mr. Sir and Kissin’ Kate Barlow.
The stage version was adapted by Sachar himself, giving the production a direct connection to the author who created Stanley Yelnats, Zero, Camp Green Lake and the generations of mystery woven throughout the story.
Sachar’s novel has remained a favorite among young readers for decades and received both the Newbery Medal and National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, helping establish Holes as a modern classic often introduced to students in classrooms and libraries.
That familiarity could make the Cypress Falls production especially approachable for families introducing younger audiences to live theater. Those who already know Stanley and Zero’s story will get to see how local students interpret the characters and settings onstage, while newcomers can simply follow the mystery as it unfolds.
Golden Eagle Theatre Gives Cypress Students a Stage
The September production also gives Cypress Falls students an opportunity to turn weeks of rehearsals and behind-the-scenes preparation into a shared community experience.
A high school production involves much more than the actors audiences see under the lights. Student theater depends on performers as well as young people working on sets, props, costumes, lighting, sound, stage management and the many details required to transform a script into a live performance.
That makes a school play more than an evening of entertainment. For families, friends and neighbors across Cypress and northwest Houston, it is also a chance to support students as they work together creatively and take on the challenge of telling a well-known story in their own way.
The Golden Eagle Theatre Company is inviting audiences to see its cast and crew bring Stanley, Zero, Kissin’ Kate, Mr. Sir, the Warden and other familiar characters to the Cypress Falls stage for what organizers describe as a rowdy adventure built around one very unusual summer at Camp Green Lake.

The Golden Eagle Theatre Company’s production of Holes will be presented on the following dates:
- Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026 — 7 p.m.
- Friday, Sept. 25, 2026 — 7 p.m.
- Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026 — 2 p.m.
Performances will take place at the Cypress Falls High School Auditorium, 9811 Huffmeister Road, Houston, TX 77095.
