Cy-Hope Seeks Community's Help After Hope Chest Resale Market Box Truck Stolen in Katy

Katy / Fulshear
October 14 2026

A Katy nonprofit known for turning donated goods into opportunities for local children and families is asking the community for help after one of its vehicles was stolen. The Hope Chest Resale Market, which benefits Cy-Hope, reported that its Katy box truck was stolen and is urging residents throughout Katy, Cypress and the Greater Houston area to watch for the missing vehicle.

In an October 13, 2026, Facebook announcement, The Hope Chest Resale Market shared news of the theft and requested assistance locating the truck. The organization identified the vehicle by its Texas license plate, TJJ5988, and asked anyone who spots it to report the location and time of the sighting.

For a nonprofit resale operation that depends on donations and community support, a missing truck represents more than a vehicle theft. Box trucks help charitable resale shops move donated furniture, household items and other merchandise, making them important resources for organizations that rely on donated goods to support their missions. The extent to which the theft has affected Hope Chest's operations has not been disclosed.

Stolen Katy Box Truck: What Residents Should Know

Cy-Hope and The Hope Chest Resale Market are asking residents to remain alert for the missing vehicle and share any potentially helpful information.

  • Vehicle: The Hope Chest Resale Market's Katy box truck

  • Texas license plate: TJJ5988

  • Theft publicly reported: October 13, 2026

  • Contact: Cy-Hope at 713-466-4673

  • Information requested: Location and time of any vehicle sighting

  • Important safety reminder: Do not approach the vehicle.

Anyone who believes they have seen the stolen box truck can contact Cy-Hope directly or send a message through the Hope Chest Resale Market Katy Facebook page.

The organization has specifically asked community members not to approach the vehicle. Residents who encounter suspicious activity or believe a crime is occurring should contact local law enforcement, using 911 for an emergency.

Why the Stolen Truck Matters to Hope Chest and Cy-Hope

The missing vehicle serves an important purpose beyond transporting merchandise between locations. According to Cy-Hope, the truck helps collect donated furniture and other large items for resale while also transporting food donations for the nonprofit's feeding program.

Cy-Hope has since confirmed that the truck was stolen from the locked parking lot at its Katy resale market on October 13. The organization has launched a $60,000 fundraising campaign to purchase a replacement truck and install a new vehicle wrap. Even if the stolen truck is recovered, Cy-Hope says missing parts or damage could require significant repairs.

What is The Hope Chest Resale Market in Katy?

Located at 6545 Stockdick School Road in Katy, TX 77449, The Hope Chest Resale Market opened its Katy location in January 2023, expanding a charitable resale operation that began in Cypress in 2016.

Unlike a traditional thrift store, Hope Chest operates as a boutique-style resale market offering gently used clothing, furniture, home décor, jewelry, books, toys, household goods and other donated merchandise. Shoppers can find affordable secondhand items while supporting programs for children and families in the surrounding community.

The Katy location joined the original Cypress store at 12015 Barker Cypress Road, giving residents in both communities additional ways to support Cy-Hope through shopping, donating and volunteering.

That support has made a measurable difference. According to Cy-Hope's 2024 annual report, the two Hope Chest locations contributed approximately $2 million to the nonprofit's programs, with volunteers contributing more than 25,000 hours of service.

How Cy-Hope Supports Children and Families Across Northwest Houston

Founded in 2010, Cy-Hope is a Cypress-based nonprofit dedicated to improving opportunities for underserved children and strengthening families throughout Cy-Fair ISD and surrounding communities.

Its mission, Making Life Better for Kids, is supported through programs addressing educational needs, food insecurity, emotional well-being and youth development.

Cy-Hope's work includes after-school programming, tutoring, mentoring, counseling services, food assistance and hands-on STEM education. The organization brings together local businesses, schools, churches, volunteers and donors to help children access resources and opportunities they might otherwise lack.

For the Katy community, Hope Chest provides a direct connection to that mission. A donated dining table, a gently used sofa or a bag of clothing can become merchandise that helps fund services for children and families.

The stolen truck is one of the resources that makes this cycle of giving possible.

How Katy and Cypress Residents Can Help

For residents who regularly shop or donate to Hope Chest, the immediate priority is helping locate the missing truck safely. Anyone who spots a box truck matching the organization's vehicle should note its location, the time and, if safely possible, its direction of travel.

Residents can share that information with Cy-Hope at 713-466-4673, without approaching or attempting to stop the vehicle.

Community members who want to support the nonprofit beyond the search can also continue shopping, donating gently used merchandise or volunteering at either Hope Chest location. The Katy store can be reached at 832-916-4585, and information about donations and store operations is available through the Hope Chest Katy website.

For an organization built around neighbors helping neighbors, the theft presents an unexpected challenge. But it also offers an opportunity for the Katy and Cypress communities to support a nonprofit whose everyday work depends on that same spirit of generosity.

Residents are encouraged to share the vehicle information with friends, neighbors and local community groups while respecting Cy-Hope's request not to approach the truck.
