Cy-Fair ISD Board to Tackle Budget, Staff Compensation, School Safety and More During June Meetings

West Houston / Cypress  /  West Houston / Cypress
June 16 2026

For families in Cypress South whose children attend Cypress-Fairbanks ISD schools, the next few days could bring important decisions that shape everything from district finances and employee compensation to school safety, transportation funding and student programs.

The Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Board of Trustees is scheduled to hold a Board Work Session on Thursday, June 18, 2026, followed by its Regular Board Meeting on Monday, June 22, 2026. Together, the meetings include a packed agenda covering the proposed 2026-2027 district budget, staff compensation, policy updates, facility matters, educational partnerships and other topics that impact one of Texas' largest school districts.

For many residents, school board meetings can feel distant from daily life. However, decisions made during these meetings often influence classroom resources, staffing levels, student services, transportation funding, extracurricular opportunities and the district's long-term financial outlook. For homeowners and families alike, the health of Cy-Fair ISD remains closely tied to community growth, neighborhood desirability and local quality of life.

Budget Adoption and Staff Compensation Among Key Items

One of the most closely watched items on the agenda is the proposed adoption of the 2026-2027 Cy-Fair ISD budget and staff compensation plan. Before trustees vote on the budget, the district will hold a public hearing during the June 18 Board Work Session, giving community members an opportunity to learn more about the proposal and provide feedback.

The board is also expected to consider a resolution related to the district's budget and its ability to comply with Senate Bill 546, along with other financial items involving investments, fund balances and property value assignments tied to local homestead exemptions.

For teachers, staff members and district employees, the compensation discussion could be among the most significant agenda items of the summer as school districts across Texas continue navigating funding challenges while working to attract and retain qualified educators.

School Safety, Transportation and Student Services Also Scheduled

Several agenda items focus on student safety and district operations.

Trustees are expected to review policy updates related to emergency planning, cybersecurity, facility safety and student welfare. The board will also consider the district's 2026-2027 Hazardous Traffic Conditions Resolution, which is required for receiving supplemental transportation funding through the Texas Education Agency.

In addition, the board will review agreements supporting specialized educational services, including a shared-service arrangement with neighboring school districts to provide services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Other partnership agreements involve higher education institutions and college advising initiatives designed to support student success beyond graduation.

Recognitions Highlight Student and Community Achievements

While much of the agenda centers on governance and district operations, the meetings will also celebrate accomplishments across the Cy-Fair community.

Trustees are scheduled to recognize student athletes who placed at the UIL State Track & Field Championship, honor a CFISD business partner for outstanding contributions to the district, recognize CFPD Officer Gilly Romero for his service and present a proclamation recognizing America's 250th Birthday and the civic, educational and economic mission of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.

These recognitions serve as a reminder that Cy-Fair ISD's story is about more than budgets and policies. It is also about students, educators, families, community partners and public servants who contribute to the success of schools across the district.

Opportunities for Public Participation

Residents who wish to speak directly to trustees can participate through Agenda Comments or Citizen Participation. Registration is required and must be completed online through the district website before noon on the day of the meeting. Citizen Participation comments will be heard during the June 22 Regular Board Meeting.

For families in Cypress South, these meetings offer a chance to stay informed about decisions that will affect students throughout the upcoming school year and beyond.

What Happens Next

The public hearing on the proposed 2026-2027 budget is scheduled for Thursday, June 18 at 6 p.m. during the Board Work Session. Trustees are then expected to consider formal adoption of the budget and staff compensation plan during the Regular Board Meeting on Monday, June 22 at 6 p.m.

Residents can review the full agendas, supporting documents and speaker registration information through the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD website.
