Constable Mark Herman Makes Personal Donation of $1,000 to Local Children's Charity for Christmas
Today, Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4, made a $1,000 personal donation to the 3rd annual Operation Blue Sleigh to make the season brighter for less fortunate cihldren.
Operation Blue Sleigh's sole purpose is to provide gifts for children left behind and may not otherwise ask for help this season. Throughout the daily shifts of law enforcement, they often come in contact with victimized and underprivileged children.
With toy donations, Operation Blue Sleigh will be able to provide police officers with gifts to give out to these children during some difficult calls on their daily shifts.
Last year, Operation Blue Sleigh collected over 900 toys from generous donors and has bene gaining more support each year since its inception. Operation Blue Sleigh founder Perla D’Abbraccio formed this initiative after hearing heartbreaking stories shared by her husband about how many children he encountered while working patrol for the Harris County Sheriff's Office that didn't have a Christmas tree in their home, let alone presents. Determined to help, she set out to ensure that these forgotten children would have a better Christmas.
"I would buy children's Christmas gifts, and wrap them and send them with my husband to work every night. My husband would go to work armed with a box of wrapped gifts to give to children on police calls, and to needy family’s who didn’t have any gifts under the tree. Hearing how happy and grateful these kids were for the Christmas gifts made all the effort I put in worth it," said Perla D’Abbraccio.
