For military families, service often reaches far beyond the person wearing the uniform. Deployments, time away from home and the everyday sacrifices of military life are shared by spouses, children, parents and the communities waiting for their loved ones to return.

The Conroe Noon Lions Club is working to make sure one local service member knows that sacrifice has not gone unnoticed.

Nominations are now open for the Conroe Noon Lions Club Hometown Military Hero Project, an initiative created to recognize, support and honor active-duty U.S. military personnel with ties to the club's service area. The deadline to submit a nomination for the 2026-2027 program is Wednesday, September 30.

Recognizing a Hometown Military Hero

Through the Hometown Military Hero Project, the Conroe Noon Lions Club adopts an active-duty service member for a club year, which runs from July through June. The selected honoree receives recognition, support and expressions of appreciation from the club throughout the year.

The program is particularly focused on locally connected active-duty military personnel serving away from home. According to the nomination materials, the project is intended to demonstrate the club's "support, respect and honor" for U.S. military members while also involving local children and teenagers in efforts supporting those who serve.

That community involvement can extend beyond the Lions Club itself. The application notes that support activities are determined by the project's committee and may include participation from other club committees, Reaves Elementary School and the Leo Club.

Who Can Be Nominated?

There are several important eligibility requirements for anyone considering a nomination.

Candidates must be active-duty military personnel, must have a connection to the Conroe Noon Lions Club service area and must be sponsored by an active CNLC member. A separate nomination form is required for each candidate each year. The committee selects the service member who will be honored, and nominees who are not selected for a particular year may be nominated again the following year.

The application asks sponsors to provide information about the nominee's military service, including branch and rank, current deployment or base, military occupational specialty or job description, military history and length of service, along with service recognitions and honors. Sponsors are also given space to tell the committee more about the person they are nominating.

For local Lions Club members who know an active-duty service member with ties to the Conroe area, that final section offers an opportunity to share the story behind the uniform and explain why the nominee deserves consideration.

September 30 Deadline Approaching

The nomination period runs through September 30, 2026, making the remaining days an important window for Conroe Noon Lions Club members who have someone in mind.

Completed nominations are to be submitted to the Conroe Noon Lions Club. The club's fillable Hometown Military Hero nomination form provides the complete guidelines and information requested from both the service member and sponsoring CNLC member.

For a community with military families, veterans and generations of residents connected to the Armed Forces, the Hometown Military Hero Project offers a personal way to recognize service close to home. It is not simply about naming an honoree. The program is designed to keep that service member connected to a community that remembers, appreciates and supports the sacrifices being made throughout the year.
