The Diary of Anne Frank is a stage adaptation of the 1947 book The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, which was published posthumously. Dramatized by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, they both worked as actors before beginning their careers as scriptwriters. They began working together in 1927 and were married in 1931. Goodrich and Hackett worked for two years on The Diary of Anne Frank. During this time, they traveled to Amsterdam to talk with Anne's father, Otto Frank, and to study the hiding place and the surrounding neighborhood. The Diary of Anne Frank won a Pulitzer Prize in 1956, the Drama Critics Circle Award, and a Tony Award for best play of 1955–1956. In 1962, Goodrich and Hackett adapted their drama as a screenplay.
