Description

Mercer Botanic Gardens, a renowned birding "hot spot," is hosting its monthly bird survey on March 27th from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. In partnership with Houston Audubon, this event is led by experienced birder and photographer Paul Gregg, along with Mercer Education Director Christy Jones.

This beginner-friendly birding program offers participants a chance to explore the diverse habitats of Mercer Botanic Gardens, which includes riparian forests, open meadows, lakes along the Cypress Creek corridor, and cultivated garden spaces. Birders can expect to see a variety of year-round birds such as:
  • Cardinals
  • Bluebirds
  • Pileated Woodpeckers
  • Chickadees

Additionally, migratory species like hummingbirds, warblers, kites, and cuckoos can be spotted. Occasionally, a bald eagle may make an appearance!

Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars, but pairs are available for borrowing. This event also counts as Field Research volunteer hours for Texas Master Naturalists. Please wear closed-toed shoes and be prepared to walk up to 2 miles on pavers, crushed asphalt trails, and grass.

Registration is requested but not required. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Register here.
