Memorial Day Ceremony in Sugar Land

Description
Each Memorial Day, we invite our community to join us as we pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.
 

Ceremony Features

  • The event will commence at 10 a.m. with a one-hour patriotic musical presentation. There will be a vehicle exhibit presented by the Sixth Cavalry Historical Association and other vendor booths including military donation stations, flower booths, etc.
  • At 11 a.m., a formal tribute will follow with words of remembrance by local dignitaries. The ceremony presenter and emcee will be Brigadier General (Ret.) Dave Van Kleeck, with Master Sergeant (Ret.) Celso Pacheco, Jr. joining as guest speaker.
  • The program will continue the community tradition of acknowledging the names of veterans engraved inside the walls of the park’s iconic Remembrance Tower and a patriotic music tribute will be performed.
  • The Houston Commemorative Air Force will present a military flyover and there will be a 21-gun salute. The ceremony will close with a traditional flag observance led by a local Boy Scout troop at Noon.
  • A "creation station" will be onsite with children’s patriotic crafts and coloring pages.
  • A small selection of food vendors will be onsite with items available for purchase.
  • Vendors, community partners and local organizations will be onsite from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Parking

Limited handicap and public parking will be available onsite. Attendees are strongly encouraged to use the park and shuttle services available at Brazos River Park (18427 Southwest Freeway). Shuttles will run continuously from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Military branches of the United States military are represented on each wall of the 40-foot Remembrance Tower. Engraved on the interior walls are the names of service members from Sugar Land who perished while on active duty.

The beautiful bronze statue symbolizes the strength and distinction of our United States Armed Forces and service members.
