Clearing Up Recycling Confusion: What Stone Gate Residents Need to Know
Recycling is an essential part of reducing waste and preserving the environment, but many residents may be unsure about what items can and cannot be placed in their recycling bins. Best Trash, the waste management provider for Stone Gate, offers clear guidelines to ensure that recycling efforts are effective and contamination-free.
Recycling Collection Schedule
Best Trash provides a 48-gallon recycling cart to each residence and collects recyclables based on location:
- East of Queenston Boulevard: Recycling is collected on Monday
- West of Queenston Boulevard: Recycling is collected on Thursday
Residents should place their recycling bins at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on collection day, ensuring that materials are properly sorted and prepared.
Did You Know? What’s Recyclable and What’s Not
One of the biggest challenges in recycling is contamination—placing non-recyclable materials in the bin can lead to entire loads being rejected. Here’s a helpful breakdown:
Accepted Items (Place in the green recycle cart)
- Paper Products: Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, office paper, and cardboard (flatten all boxes)
- Plastics #1-7: Water bottles, soda bottles, detergent containers (remove caps and rinse)
- Aluminum & Tin Cans: Soda cans, food cans (rinse out all residue)
- Glass (All Colors): Bottles and jars (clean with no food residue)
Not Accepted (Do NOT place these in the recycle cart)
- Plastic Bags: Grocery bags, Ziploc bags, and plastic wrap—these can be recycled at most local grocery stores
- Food-Soiled Items: Greasy pizza boxes, used napkins, and paper towels
- Styrofoam: Cups, food containers, and packaging materials
- Hazardous Waste: Batteries, paint cans, motor oil, and cooking oil
- Electronics & Bulky Items: TVs, computers, and large household appliances

Proper Disposal Matters
Placing non-recyclable items in the recycling bin can cause contamination, leading to more waste being sent to landfills instead of being properly processed. Best Trash urges residents to double-check their recycling items before placing them in the bin to ensure a smoother and more efficient recycling process.
Yard Waste & Bulk Trash Collection
For larger items and yard waste, Best Trash collects tree trimmings, small fencing, and furniture on both trash collection days (Monday and Thursday). However, items such as refrigerators and freezers must be drained of Freon with proof of service before collection.
Recycling Cart Care & Replacement
Each residence receives one 48-gallon recycling cart. If a cart is lost or stolen, a replacement can be purchased for $75 plus tax by contacting Best Trash at 281-313-2378 or customerservice@besttrashtexas.com.
Holiday Schedule
If a collection day falls on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas Day, service will resume on the next regularly scheduled collection day.
By following these guidelines, Stone Gate residents can contribute to a cleaner, greener community while ensuring their recycling efforts are not wasted. For more information or to report service issues, contact Best Trash directly.
