Held October 7 at Cypress Woods High School, the district meet brought together seventh and eighth grade runners from across Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, giving young athletes an opportunity to put their training to the test against some of the district's strongest competitors.
Anthony Middle School led the way with a sweep of both girls' team championships, including a second consecutive district title for its eighth grade runners. Smith Middle School captured the eighth grade boys' championship in a closely contested race, while Sprague Middle School claimed the seventh grade boys' title.
Beyond the medals and team trophies, the results reflected months of dedication by students, coaches and families throughout the Cypress and northwest Houston communities.
Anthony Middle School Sweeps Girls' Cross Country District Championships
Anthony Middle School's girls' cross country program continued its winning tradition, capturing district championships in both the seventh and eighth grade divisions.
The Lady Ravens' eighth grade team finished with 54 points, holding off Smith Middle School, which placed second with 61 points. Spillane Middle School took third with 83 points.
The victory marked the second consecutive district championship for Anthony's eighth grade girls, who also won the title as seventh graders in 2025.
Five runners contributed to Anthony's championship team score: Bianca Bramble finished fourth in 13:16.88, Kayten Panek placed seventh in 14:31.30, Erin Bassey finished 13th in 14:44.65, Rylie Little took 16th in 14:49.50 and Alexandra Wilson placed 17th in 14:50.25.

"Seeing our eighth-grade girls earn back-to-back district titles is incredibly special. Repeating as champions takes dedication, consistency, and a willingness to keep pushing yourself," Clay said. "These girls showed up ready to work and supported one another throughout the season. As a coach, I’m proud of their accomplishments, but I’m just as proud of the teamwork and determination behind them."

"I could not be prouder of our seventh-grade girls for finishing their first season undefeated and earning a district title. They embraced the challenges of a new sport, trusted their training and pushed one another to improve," Clay said. "Watching them grow in confidence and finish the season with this accomplishment has been so rewarding. What a special way to begin their journey as Ravens!"

"Winning the district championship is a reflection of all the hard work they have put in, both individually and as a team. They have truly earned this moment, and I am so proud of the way they represented Sprague Middle School."
While Sprague controlled the team standings, the seventh grade boys' individual championship produced one of the day's most competitive finishes.

In cross country, team scores are determined by adding the finishing places of a team's top five scoring runners. The team with the lowest combined score wins, making consistent performances throughout the lineup especially important.
That scoring system helped shape the championship results, particularly in the closely contested eighth grade boys' race between Smith and Anthony.
What the District Championships Mean for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Student-Athletes
For families across Cypress, Cy-Fair and northwest Houston, middle school athletics offer students opportunities to develop confidence, friendships and healthy habits while representing their campuses.
Cross country is especially dependent on individual effort and team cooperation. Although each runner competes against the clock and other athletes, the team's final standing depends on how well its members perform together.
That was evident throughout the CFISD district championships.
Anthony's eighth grade girls demonstrated the consistency needed to repeat as champions. Its seventh grade girls completed an undefeated first season, while Smith's eighth grade boys showed how much a team can improve from one year to the next. Sprague's seventh grade boys proved the value of having multiple runners finish near the front of the field.
The individual performances were equally noteworthy, from Magdalena Sanchez's decisive eighth grade girls' victory to the tightly contested seventh grade boys' finish between Acesyn Camacho, Cesar Espinal and Michael Mueller.
As part of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD's middle school athletic programs, cross country gives young runners an introduction to competitive distance running while helping prepare those interested in continuing the sport at the high school level.
For the students who competed October 7, the district meet marked the culmination of their 2026 middle school cross country season. For many, the lessons learned through training, competition and supporting teammates will carry into future athletic opportunities.
