Castroville is bringing neighbors, families and first responders together for an evening built around community connections when National Night Out returns to Houston Square on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026.

Hosted by the Castroville Police Department, the free event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. and is open to the whole family. Residents of Potranco Ranch West can stop by to meet local police, fire and EMS personnel, explore emergency vehicles up close and learn more about the people and resources that help keep the Castroville area safe.

Meet Castroville First Responders and See Emergency Vehicles Up Close

One of the main draws of Castroville National Night Out will be the opportunity for families to spend time with local first responders outside of an emergency setting.

Police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel and other public-safety representatives are expected to participate. Guests can also tour police, fire and EMS vehicles and get a closer look at the equipment first responders use in the community.

The evening will include a drone demonstration highlighting technology used in public safety, along with crime-prevention information, safety tips and local resources residents can use throughout the year.

For families in Potranco Ranch West, that kind of face-to-face interaction can make local public safety feel a little more familiar, particularly for children who may have only seen emergency personnel while responding to calls.

Kids’ Zone, Food Trucks, Giveaways and More

National Night Out is designed to be as much a neighborhood gathering as it is a public-safety event.

A Kids’ Zone will feature bounce houses, games and other activities, while food trucks will have food available for purchase. The Castroville Police Department will also provide free water during the event.

Local businesses, organizations and nonprofits will participate as community partners, giving residents another chance to learn about groups serving Castroville and the surrounding area.

The evening will also include giveaways and prizes for all ages, adding a little extra fun for families making an evening of the event.

National Night Out is part of a nationwide community-building campaign focused on strengthening relationships between neighbors and law enforcement while encouraging crime-prevention awareness and stronger neighborhood connections.
