Bridgeland High School Runners Sweep Region Titles, Qualify for State
The Bridgeland High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams qualified for the UIL Cross Country State Championships by winning the Region II-6A Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 21 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.
The Bridgeland boys won the Region II-6A title for the second consecutive year with an overall score of 35 with senior Benjamin Montgomery leading the way finishing first overall (14:56.81). Also running for the Bears were junior Griffen Saacke (2nd, 15:16.57), junior Kyle Pawlak (9th, 15:45.73), senior Tyler Weston (10th, 15:46.03), junior Maddox McCallister (13th, 15:47.26), junior Layton Carlisle (17th, 15:56.41) and junior Braden Greenaway (37th, 16:28.14).
The Bridgeland girls won their first-ever regional championship with an overall score of 35. Senior Lily Fawcett led the Bears, finishing first overall (17:32.28). Also running for the Bears were junior Rowan Saacke (2nd, 17:51.12), junior Susana Rawls (5th, 18:13.64), senior Haley Hill (14th, 18:43.90), sophomore Brynlee Weston (15th, 18:44.81), junior Alexandra Montgomery (21st, 19:08.62) and senior Kate Garrison (43rd, 19:59.19).

Other runners representing CFISD at the Region II meet were the Cypress Ranch and Cypress Springs high school boys’ teams, which finished 14th and 16th, respectively. In the girls’ race, Cypress Ranch finished ninth and Cypress Woods High School finished 14th.
Cypress Springs runners Elizabeth Alquicira and Kaitlyn Barnes finished 38th and 103rd, respectively, while Cypress Lakes High School runner Aden Ortega finished 45th.
The Region III-6A Cross Country Meet was held Oct. 21 in Huntsville. The Cy-Fair High School girls finished 19th and the Cypress Creek High School boys finished 14th overall.
Jersey Village High School runner Andrew Ryan placed 46th in the boys’ race, while Cypress Ridge High School’s Julian Giraldo finished 58th. In the girls’ race, Cypress Falls High School runner Rafaela Olivarez finished 50th and Cypress Creek runner Xiomara Sanchez finished 83rd.
The UIL Cross Country State Championships will be held Nov. 1-2 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
