Be Ready: 5 Ways to Prepare for Flooding

August 27 2024

If it can rain, it can flood. According to the Texas General Land Office, approximately 90% of all natural disasters in the United States involve flooding, and damage often occurs in low or moderate risk areas. Flooding can result not only from severe storms but also from the failure of dams or levees and new land developments.

Just 1 inch of water can lead to $25,000 in damage to a home. It is crucial for residents to understand that flood damage is not covered under standard homeowners and renters’ insurance policies. The Texas General Land Office advises preparing for floods by obtaining flood insurance, assembling disaster supplies, and staying informed about potential weather alerts.

Storm Water Solutions, a local engineering firm that specializes in storm water pollution prevention and provides expertise to land developers and utility districts, shares tips on ways you can prepare for flooding.
