Two New QuikTrip Locations Planned for Northwest Houston Near FM 1960 and Highway 249

Northwest Houston
October 27 2026

Northwest Houston drivers may soon have two more places to fill up, grab a coffee and pick up a quick meal. , the convenience store chain commonly known as QT, has plans for two new locations in northwest Harris County, one near the intersection of FM 1960 and Mills Road and another at Highway 249 and Grant Road.

Both proposed stores would be located in Houston's 77070 ZIP code, near the Willowbrook and Cypress Creek areas. According to construction filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), each project calls for a 6,445-square-foot convenience store with retail gasoline sales, representing a combined estimated construction cost of $1.3 million.

The first store, identified as QuikTrip #4655, is planned near FM 1960 and Mills Road. Construction is currently scheduled to begin July 26, 2027, with a projected completion date of February 17, 2028.

The second location, QuikTrip #4660, is planned at Highway 249 and Grant Road, another busy intersection just a short distance away. According to its , construction is expected to begin April 19, 2027, with completion projected for December 2, 2027.

Neither location has an announced opening date, but the two projects offer another sign that QuikTrip is making a serious push into the Houston market.

For residents who have been noticing more QT signs popping up around town, there is a reason. The chain has been steadily expanding throughout the region, and northwest Houston is part of that growth.

QuikTrip Has Big Plans for Houston, and Northwest Harris County Is Part of Them

QuikTrip may be a newer name to some Houston drivers, but the company has been around for nearly 70 years.

The chain got its start in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1958, when Burt Holmes and Chester Cadieux opened their first small grocery store. The business gradually evolved into the gasoline and convenience store operation customers recognize today, eventually expanding into major markets across the country.

QuikTrip entered the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 1999 and has since become a familiar stop for Texas drivers. Today, the privately held company operates more than 1,250 stores in 23 states, according to its .

Houston, however, is one of the markets where the company is actively working to establish a larger presence.

In February 2026, QuikTrip outlined plans to open approximately eight to 10 additional Houston-area stores before the end of the year. At the time, locations were already under construction in several parts of the region, including Willis, Porter and southeast Houston. Other projects were planned for Tomball, Brookshire and Baytown.

Those plans have continued to take shape.

On October 23, 2026, the reported that QuikTrip had opened its 16th Houston-area location at 1201 Dixie Farm Road near Interstate 45. Six more stores were under construction, and the company was planning to open at least 10 new locations annually in the Houston market.

The two newly identified projects at FM 1960 and Mills Road and Highway 249 and Grant Road add to the list of future locations planned for northwest Houston.

For a chain that has been a fixture in other Texas cities for decades, the Houston expansion is bringing QT to a new group of customers, including commuters and families in northwest Harris County.

More Than Gas and Snacks: What Makes QuikTrip Different?

Anyone who has stopped at a QuikTrip in Dallas, San Antonio or another city may already know that the chain puts considerable emphasis on food and drinks.

While gasoline remains a major part of the business, QuikTrip has spent years developing its convenience stores into places where customers can pick up breakfast, lunch or a quick bite without stopping at a traditional restaurant.

Its QT Kitchens concept, introduced in 2013, brought made-to-order food counters into the company's stores. Depending on the location, customers can find pizza, breakfast sandwiches, grilled sandwiches and other prepared foods, alongside pastries, coffee, fountain drinks and frozen beverages.

That approach has helped the chain become popular with people who spend a lot of time on the road. For parents making the morning school run, workers heading to a job site or residents running errands along FM 1960 and Highway 249, being able to grab a meal and fill up the tank in one stop can be a welcome convenience.

QuikTrip also has a long history of operating around the clock, having moved to companywide 24-hour operations in 1976.

The company has not yet released details about the food service, gasoline pumps or operating hours planned for either of its two new northwest Houston locations, so it remains to be seen which amenities the stores will offer.

Where Are the Two New QuikTrip Locations Planned in Northwest Houston?

Although the two projects are relatively close to one another, they would serve different stretches of northwest Houston's busy commercial corridors.

QuikTrip #4655: FM 1960 and Mills Road

QuikTrip already has a presence along FM 1960, with a store at Jones Road just a few miles from the proposed Mills Road location.

Residents familiar with the FM 1960 and Mills Road intersection may also remember the 7-Eleven that once operated there. It's possible that the former 7-Eleven property could be the site of the new QuikTrip, although that has not been confirmed. The TDLR filing lists only the intersection, not a specific street address, leaving the exact location uncertain for now.

The Mills Road area is also close to neighborhoods that have been part of northwest Houston for decades, including communities near Cypress Creek, Willowbrook and the surrounding FM 1960 corridor.

A new QuikTrip here would provide another gas station and convenience store option for residents who travel this stretch regularly, whether they are commuting to work, taking children to school or simply heading across town.

According to the construction filing, the proposed store, identified as QuikTrip #4655, would be located near the intersection of FM 1960 and Mills Road in Houston's 77070 ZIP code. The project calls for construction of a 6,445-square-foot convenience store with an estimated construction cost of $650,000. Construction is currently scheduled to begin July 26, 2027, with completion projected for February 17, 2028.

QuikTrip #4660: Highway 249 and Grant Road

The second proposed location would bring QuikTrip to the intersection of Highway 249 and Grant Road, another heavily traveled part of northwest Houston.

The Highway 249 corridor is home to a mix of established neighborhoods, shopping centers, restaurants and businesses serving residents throughout Willowbrook, Cypress Creek, Champions and surrounding communities.

For drivers who regularly travel Highway 249 between Tomball and northwest Houston, the planned QuikTrip at Grant Road would add another option for gasoline, food and drinks without having to venture far from their usual route.

Like the FM 1960 project, the new store would measure 6,445 square feet and include retail gasoline sales.

The , filed October 26, 2026, identified the proposed store as QuikTrip #4660, would be located near the intersection of Highway 249 and Grant Road in Houston's 77070 ZIP code. The project calls for construction of a 6,445-square-foot convenience store with an estimated construction cost of $650,000. Construction is currently scheduled to begin April 19, 2027, with completion projected for December 2, 2027.

If the construction schedules remain unchanged, the Highway 249 and Grant Road location could be completed before the FM 1960 and Mills Road store, although that does not necessarily mean it will open first.

With both projects planned in the same general area, northwest Houston residents could eventually have several QuikTrip options within a relatively short drive.

What Do These New QuikTrip Locations Mean for Northwest Houston?

The two planned stores are part of a broader pattern of convenience store development along Houston's busy suburban roadways, where companies are competing for customers who want quick access to fuel, food and everyday essentials.

For residents of neighborhoods near Willowbrook, Champions, Cypress Creek and the surrounding FM 1960 corridor, the new stores would add to the growing selection of businesses already operating in the area.

Of course, two additional gas stations also mean more commercial activity at intersections that already see significant traffic throughout the day.

Details about driveway access, the number of fuel pumps and any potential traffic-related improvements have not been included in the project information provided. Those specifics may become clearer as construction approaches.

The projected December 2027 completion date for the Highway 249 location and February 2028 completion date for the FM 1960 store are not necessarily their opening dates. As with other commercial construction projects, timelines could change, and both locations would still need to complete any required inspections and preparations before welcoming customers.

For now, QuikTrip has not announced grand opening dates, hiring schedules or additional details about either planned store.

Another Familiar Name Making Its Way Into Northwest Houston

For years, Greater Houston's convenience store landscape has included longtime regional and national operators, with residents often developing their own preferences for where to get gas, coffee or a quick bite.

QuikTrip is looking to become part of that routine.

Its growing number of Houston-area locations suggests the company sees room for another competitor, particularly in communities where residents regularly travel between neighborhoods, schools, workplaces and shopping destinations.

The addition of two planned stores so close to one another is particularly noteworthy for northwest Houston. Rather than focusing on a single intersection, QuikTrip is planning locations along both FM 1960 and Highway 249, two roads many area residents travel every day.

For those who already know and enjoy the QT brand, the planned locations could eventually mean a shorter drive to a favorite stop. For residents who have never visited a QuikTrip, they will be two more businesses to check out once construction is complete.

The projects would add two more businesses to northwest Houston, expanding the options available near its long-established neighborhoods.

Residents can learn more about the company and find existing locations through the .
