Academy Sports + Outdoors Is Coming to Magnolia: New Retail Location Set to Break Ground in 2026
A new chapter in Magnolia retail is on the horizon: Academy Sports + Outdoors, one of Texas' most beloved sporting goods and outdoor lifestyle retailers, is officially headed to Magnolia. Plans are in place for a brand-new store located at4353 Magnolia Village Dr, Magnolia, TX 77354, within the rapidly growing Magnolia Village Shopping Center at the southeast corner of FM-1488 and Spur 149.
Construction on the new single-story, 55,015-square-foot retail building is scheduled to begin April 6, 2026, with a projected completion date of December 7, 2026. The project carries an estimated cost of $8 million and will serve the growing population of Montgomery County and surrounding communities with convenient access to quality sporting goods and outdoor gear.
A Trusted Name in Texas Retail
Founded in 1938 in San Antonio, Academy Sports + Outdoors has grown from a modest military surplus store into a household name across the South and beyond. Headquartered in Katy, Texas, the company now operates over 260 locations across 18 states—many of which are already familiar fixtures throughout the Greater Houston area. Whether it’s fishing tackle, fitness gear, team sports equipment, or casual outdoor apparel, Academy remains a one-stop shop for families and athletes alike.

Phase II of the Magnolia Village development, where Academy will reside, has been thoughtfully planned with increased retail space, pedestrian-friendly layouts, and strong traffic flows. According to the market overview on page 6 of the Magnolia Village brochure, this area boasts impressive vehicle traffic counts, with more than 26,700 cars traveling daily on FM 1488 and over 12,500 on Spur 149.
