Houston Repertoire Ballet Presents Celebration of Dance 2024: A Mesmerizing Blend of Ballet and Contemporary Dance

February 19 2024

Houston Repertoire Ballet (HRB) welcomes the community to its biggest dance event of the year, the Celebration of Dance 2024. Brought to you by Houston’s premier pre-professional ballet company, a series of special performances promise a mesmerizing blend of ballet and contemporary dance as HRB celebrates its 28th season.

The repertoire includes the beloved classic Swan Lake Act 2, composed by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, with guest artists from Louisville Ballet, Natalia Ashikhmina and Mark Krieger, Gaîté Parisienne, a delightful Parisienne Cancan ballet set to Offenbach’s music, an exotic scene from Alexander Borodin’s opera, Prince Igor, and two new works for HRB’s repertoire: Rising Tide, a contemporary work by JoDee Engle, and Alarum, a contemporary ballet work choreographed by Kristy Nilsson.

For those interested in understanding more about the performances, attend the pre-event 'Talk time' with choreographer Kristy Nilsson, starting at 1:30 p.m. on both days. HRB's commitment to educating audiences of all ages in the art of ballet and dance makes this an opportunity not to be missed.

Special recognition and a heartfelt farewell will be given to HRB's graduating senior dancers. Taking their final bow with HRB will be Katie Engle, Kinder HSPVA; Lily Han, Cypress Falls HS; Makenna LaLonde, Kinder HSPVA; Audrey McClelland, home educated; Mai-Linh Moore, home educated; Sara Ruddick, Covenant Academy; Kierstan Sobrino, Klein Oak HS; Charlotte Stewart, St. Agnes Academy; and Kessa Vorderbruggen, Frassati Catholic High School.
