A Legacy of Community, Commitment, and Compassion: Cypress Ace Hardware Owners Celebrate 28 Years

April 24 2024

Bill and Susan Murff, the proud owners of Cypress Ace Hardware, are celebrating an impressive 28 years of ownership this month. Known by locals for the store's welcoming atmosphere, superior customer service and expansive selection of goods, the Cypress Ace Hardware has been a staple in the Cy-Fair community for decades.

"We see the life in this store like a well-worn hammer," says Bill. "It's sturdy, it's dependable, and it's been through its share of highs, lows and life-changing moments. And at the end of the day, it's still here, ready to help build the next chapter."

Establishing its roots in the Cy-Fair area in 1969, the story of Cypress Ace Hardware is deeply intertwined with the broader Ace Hardware brand, which began as a small chain of stores in 1924. Today, Ace includes over 5,000 stores in 50 states and 70 countries, each one independently owned, much like the Murffs' location. Each store holds firmly to the commitment of being "The Helpful Place," promising that "helping you is the most important thing we have to do today."

Here in Cypress, this promise extends beyond the vast array of hardware products and exciting brands like Big Green Egg and Stihl. It's found in the unique offerings like a United States Post Office, a small engine repair shop, an indoor grill super center, a gift shop with tons of trendy brands and even a homemade fudge bar, all within the store's walls.

"But it's bigger than the products we sell or the services we offer," says Susan. "This is about relationships. The friendships we've made, the support we've received, they are the nails and screws that hold our store together."

Beyond the store, Cypress Ace Hardware is a pillar of the community. Since the Murff's acquired the Cypress Ace Hardware store in 1996, they have raised thousands of dollars for causes like the Children's Miracle Network and Texas Children's Hospital. They also support local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops through various initiatives.

"We don't support these causes because we have to, but because we get to. This community has given us so much, it's only right that we give back," expresses Susan warmly.

This action of giving has not gone unnoticed. In 2017, Cypress Ace Hardware was chosen as the "All Star" Retailer of the Year by the Ace Hardware Corporation, an honor bestowed upon one store annually for their exceptional fundraising and commitment to their community.

Cypress Ace Hardware isn't just a place to buy nails and hammers – it's a cornerstone of the community. As they look forward to the future, Bill and Susan hold a deep appreciation for the community that has shaped their store. "From the bottom of our hearts, thank you," says Bill. "Thank you for every purchase, every referral, every review. You've helped us build more than a store, you've helped us build a family."
