Governor Abbott Office of the Governor State Insurance Building 1100 San Jacinto Austin, Texas 78701 Rep. Jacey Jetton 22333 Grand Corner Dr. Ste. 151 Katy, TX 77494 Senator Joan Huffman 16010 Barkers Point Ln Suite 265 Houston, TX 77079Ê Honorable (title & name)Ê Subject: Forever Chemicals in water sourced for North Fort Bend Water AuthorityÊ I am sending you this letter to inform you of a major problem that will happen within the next few years with potable water provided to many people in the greater Houston area. The North Fort Bend Water Authority (NFBWA/authority) via legislation is required to send surface water, which is taken from Lake Houston, to all the potable water providers in the boundary of NFBWA. At the present time, the potable water supply entities are providing water that meets or exceeds the legal quality requirements of the Federal Environmental Protection (EPA) agency. More important is the fact that this water will not harm those who use and drink the current water. However, it has come to my attention that the NFBWA has ÒForever ChemicalsÓ in it. As you may not know but some of these are carcinogens. The EPA requires that no amount of carcinogen is allowed in potable water. There is another chemical that is a really big issue today, 6PPD-Q. This chemical kills fish and is thought to be harmful to humans. It comes from automobile tires. The chemical leaves the tires from improper disposal and wear deposits that wash off the roads as 6PPD. This chemical when combined with water becomes 6PPD-Q. This situation can be solved by issuing an executive order and legislation that amends the enabling act that created such water authorities. I suggest that these documents simply state that such authorities are required to send water to current and future water supply entities that meets or exceeds the current and all future EPA standards.Ê (Your Name and Address)
