New Lamar CISD Campuses Reveal Mascots and Colors: Honoring Community Legacy for 2025-2026 School Year

September 26 2024

The Lamar Consolidated ISD Board of Trustees has given the green light to the mascots and colors for its new campuses within Secondary Complex #7. This decision came after a unanimous vote during a regular meeting on September 17, 2024, paving the way for the campuses to open in the 2025-2026 school year.

Tomas High School, Banks Junior High School, and Bielstein Middle School are the new educational institutions set to join the Lamar CISD family. The Gators was approved as the shared official mascot for all three schools, a decision highlighting and reflecting the district's commitment to community legacy.

Board President Zach Lambert stressed the value of honoring the legacy of community members. One such individual, Gene Tomas, is commemorated in the naming of Tomas High School. Tomas, a lauded educator within the district, has a notable connection with the Gators during his time at George Junior High School.

"One of the things that stood out to me was Mr. Tomas' role at George Junior High School when they were the Gators, and that connection resonated with me. I started thinking about the significance of the Gators in Fort Bend County," Lambert said.

The selection process wasn't a hasty decision. District staff formed a small internal committee to outline parameters and ponder potential mascot and color options. The school's namesake or a family member's input was also a vital piece in the decision-making framework.

Community voices were central in shaping the final decision. The committee conducted a two-week survey in June, culminating in over 1,000 responses. The data was then reviewed in a July meeting consisting of parents, principals, campus, and district staff, resulting in a ranked list of mascot and color choices. With the top picks in hand, mockup graphics came to life for presentation to the Board of Trustees.

Beyond the secondary complex, mascots for two elementary schools were also finalized - Fagert Elementary School in Richmond will be home to the Foxes, and Haygood Elementary School in Fulshear will champion the Hedgehogs.

Named in honor of Alice Deanne Sbrusch Fagert, a celebrated educator, Fagert Elementary aims to embody her lifelong dedication to learning and passion for inspiring future educators. The legacy of public service by Judge RH “Sandy” Bielstein is also celebrated in the naming of Bielstein Middle School.

Furthermore, Haygood Elementary School pays tribute to former teachers and community service stalwarts, James “Dick” Richard & Marinella Haygood. The couple dedicated many years to shaping young minds in Lamar CISD and served the community in various capacities.

As Lamar CISD looks to the future, these new campuses represent a commitment to honor community legacies while fostering educational excellence in Fort Bend County. Now, with mascots and colors decided, the countdown begins to the 2025-2026 school year and the unveiling of these new campuses.
